We believe in listening to the horse and putting their needs FIRST!
No ego, no Agenda. We take the time to grow a loving and trusting partnership.
We believe in letting the horse grow at their own pace and slowly developing it along the way to eventually prepare it for a rider.
We believe that horses are not fully developed until at the EARLIEST 51/2 years old. (This is for the QH other breeds take longer)
We develop each horse as an individual we don’t expect or attempt to fit any two horses into the same mold or goals.
We don’t prioritize head set instead we develop our horses from the hind end. Creating a stable pelvis. We believe self carriage is having taken the time to train the horse to be physically capable of carrying themselves WITH a rider on their back and they are able to do this on their own without being forced into a ‘frame’
What this looks like for our horses:
Weanling-31/2 years
Weaning at no earlier than 6months in a low stress manner for both mare and foal.
Gentle halter training where they learn to give to pressure and follow on their own. Our foals are handled daily throughout the winter and brought in to stalls for individual specialized grain rations to help their growing needs.
This is where the foundation starts. We start asking for a couple steps of Pillar regularly.
Turned out for the summer on grass
Brought in every 6weeks for trimming.
This is our process until they are 31/2 where at this time for a couple weeks we start some light longeing walk/trot and pillar. We will saddle and sit on them a couple times. Ask for walk/trot (only if they are ready) Then they are turned back out for another year.
41/2 -51/2
We build on more in hand and longeing. Developing the horse at their pace. Developing more work under saddle. Lateral work. Continue to grow our horses. We spend a lot of time in the bush, working cows, climbing mountains exploring and adventures.
Our goal is to develop lovely equine partners at 7/8years and beyond.
Horses that don’t require maintenance. Happy horses that are pain free and comfortable in their bodies for long and healthy lives.
